Its been a while since I was at, and co-organised one of the bigger stock photo shoots which I normally do during the year. Stock photography is the supply of photographs licensed for specific uses. It is used to fulfill the needs of creative assignments instead of hiring a photographer, studio, models etc. Ideal for low budgets. Thankfully the weather has warmed up nicely so its quite a bit more comfortable outdoors, even though there’s still snow on the ground. Four photographers and five models made for quite a busy day and quite a few concepts were successfully bagged. Of course, the catering team (consisting of our respective wife’s, Colleen and Suzanne) is also worthy of mention as is our make up artist that day, Erin Harris who did stellar work. Many thanks also to our faithful and reliable models who were there that day. Here’s a few teasers from Saturdays shoot….
Bullying is a universal issue that touches almost every person, family, school, business or community at one time or another regardless of age, gender, race, religion or socio-economic status. Bullying is not only a “school” issue, bullying is a broader community health and wellness issue. The effects of bullying can last a lifetime for the victim. Earlier this year, a local magazine here in Ontario ran a series of articles on the issue featuring photo’s from my portfolio, Lakeridge Kids magazine, aimed at giving children advice on how to deal with bullying, plus resources where they could go for assistance. November 15th – 21st was the seventh annual Bullying Awareness Week, the theme being “Stand Up to Bullying!” Bullying today however is no longer confined to the violent type…it includes
-Verbal (name-calling)
-Phyical (punching, pushing)
-Social (leaving someone out of a game or group on purpose)
-Extortion (stealing someone’s money or toys)
-Cyberbullying (using computers, the Internet, mobile phones, etc.
Words hurt.
Being called names can hurt someone else’s feelings really badly. All forms of bullying are harmful, but VERBAL bullying, including name-calling, happens more often than any other kind of bullying. Its a delicate subject to photograph and have a photograph depict the story of whats taking place. This past weekend, I had the pleasure to work with some local children on a shoot where I revisited this topic.
The Centre was incorporated in 1986 as the Barrie Gallery Project, a not-for-profit, charitable organization. The Gallery Project opened a storefront gallery space in 1988 at 17c Mulcaster Street. In 1989, local businessman Maurice MacLaren left his collection and residence at 147 Toronto Street jointly to the City of Barrie and the Barrie Gallery Project, giving the gallery a permanent home. In response to the bequest, the name of the gallery was changed to the MacLaren Art Centre in 1990.
I’ve been living here in Barrie for the past five years almost and with a first time for everything, this was my first time venturing into the MacLaren. Fabulous building, great architectural features inside, and on a bright sunny day last wednesday, I was there for the debut of PIE magazine issue 2 (coming soon to a chapters/indigo near you….check the shelves next week) … and a fashion show.

Thanks to Tiffany Everett for coming into the studio yesterday evening and providing the models with a free massage. I’m sure all the models enjoyed their relaxing shoot. Tiffany is a Barrie local and offers a massage service in the comfort of your own home. If you’re interested in the service that Tiffany provides and would like a consultation, let me know and I’ll pass your details on. Tiffany comes to your own home, at a time convenient to you…and provides her own table, towels etc thats required. Whether you have a sports injury, need those knots and kinks in your body worked out, I have no hesitation in recommending Tiffany.Click on the images below to see larger.
