Its been a while since I’ve had the chance to sit here and talk about the latest shoot….in fact, there’s been several shoots since the last blog post. Between shooting and post editing, getting wedding albums out on time…meeting new friends, catching up with old friends….its been an absolute whirlwind. About two years ago, I ‘met’ Trina on Facebook (does anyone know someone who doesn’t use Facebook these days?), late last month, I had the pleasure of meeting her in person for the first time. I can honestly say she’s no different that the impression one gets from her online, pretty, fun, full of life and intelligent. Over the past few weeks, she has taken part in shoots, and indeed took a few photo’s herself at some of the shoots….safe to say that the camera bug took hold!!

The past few weeks have also seen me shooting with Meagan Slater of Astrum Studio’s. Apart from enjoying the company of a fellow photographer and sharing knowledge, Meagan is extremely talented in her craft, and its a pleasure to see how a simple photograph evolves into a work of art under her hand. Truly one of the most creative and artistic people I have had the pleasure of knowing in a long time. As I mentioned earlier, we’ve been busy with photoshoots…both with new models and some of our regular clients….Thanks to Sher, Ciara, Trina, Meagan, Amanda, Sophia and the two Ariels for coming out and taking part. Some of our favourite photos from these shoots are below!! Amidst the photoshoots, we continue to shoot on Saturday nights at the Barrie speedway….the thrill of racing never fails to match the excitement of the spectators, and in true Nascar fashion….there’s the spinouts and crashes (much to the chagrin of the drivers at times). Well worth checking it out if you want to do something different on a Saturday night.

For those of you that enjoy a somewhat slower pace, and photographing the natural environment, theres a multitude of places just outside of Barrie that offer such respite. On a recent trip, one such tranquil scene remains etched in my memory. Thanks to my good friend that introduced this location to me….

All too often we ‘meet’ people online in a somewhat related profession to our own, especially with the recent explosion of social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook. Krystie is a make up artist here in Barrie and as a photographer, more often than not for photoshoots, we need someone on make-up. Although Krystie and I have been friends on Facebook for quite a while now, it wasn’t until today that I finally got to meet her. Although she was here in a different capacity as a model, I thoroughly enjoyed having her here and it was a blast.
Krystie Ann has worked for various high end makeup companies including Estee Lauder and CARGO cosmetics. A Beauty contributor/columnist for PIE magazine, she was also a member of an elite makeup team for CARGO cosmetics giving consultations, makeovers and promoting new products at various locations across the GTA. She has many prestigious accomplishments such as being nominated for Makeup Artist of the Year for the Barrie’s Readers Choice Awards, a finalist for Makeup Artist of the Year for the Mirror Awards 2007 and Semi Finalist in the same category for the Contessa Awards 2006.
Wow… March already….is it just me or is this year just zipping by? The past few weeks have been busy, shooting model portfolio material, consulting for yet more weddings this year and of course, Barrie’s PIE magazine (issue 3 is coming soon). I’m not sure how many of you watched the Olympics…here in Canada it came to a nail biting finish with an ice hockey match between the USA and Canada. To all the athletes that competed, congratulations on your achievement performing in the Olympics. Of course this being March, all Irish thoughts turn towards celebrating as St. Patrick’s day approaches….
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa, and will be the culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the as the sports event with the most competing nations.2008 Summer Olympics. This will be the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation, after South Africa beat Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process. Italy are the defending champions.
Amanda was in the studio today getting ready to support her home country of Portugal in the upcoming world cup. I always enjoy having Amanda here, always a fun and creative shoot with equally great results.
Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of seemingly impossible or supernatural feats, using purely natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects or illusions. One who performs such illusions is called a magician or an illusionist. In our early childhood I think we are all captivated by the ideal of magic, and as we mature into adults, generally aware that magic is performed using trickery, we nevertheless derive enjoyment from the magician’s skill and cunning. Many have made a successful career from it, some even becoming a household name, from Houdini to Chris Angel. Model Sherrey Hall was back in the studio today for a shoot on this theme….
Another favourite from the series I shot recently with local model Sherrey Hall. My dog (Sprocket) has never sat so still or looked this dignified…..but he does like to be brushed so that may have had something to do with it.

Had a friend in the studio today…and no stranger to shooting with me. Matt Simon has modeled for me quite a few times over the past year…so when he stopped by the studio today, it was a great chance to catch up and share what was going on. Great company makes for an enjoyable weekend, and the time today just flew by. Matt is taking his model career seriously and is headed for an agency, so a few up to date photo’s were in order and I think its safe to say everybody here today enjoyed themselves and had a great time. I’m sure Matt will do extremely well in his career and look forward to shooting him here again soon in the studio
Quite a busy weekend, advertisment shoot, client meetings, portrait sessions….it was a pleasure today to relax in the studio and welcome Alana Sproule of Awkward Stage and Meaghan Armstrong of Le Petit Chapeau for a sexy glamour pin up shoot with model Sherrey Hall.
It was great to have local models Sherrey and her daughter Ciara back for a shoot again, the first in the new location. Two looks, classic glamour pin up for Sherrey, and a greaser look for Ciara, who is a big fan of the Outsiders. Wardrobe was provided by both the models and Sandra Roberts of PIE magazine.
