A short night of racing at the Barrie speedway last evening which was sponsored by Dave Wood, Mazda dealership at Moffatt’s Northwood as anxious eyes continually looked upwards as the ominously dark black clouds rolled in quickly. The officials kept things running smoothly however and at least half of the races were done. Unfortunately for the drivers (and the photographer too who had managed to forget his umbrella in the car), the rain did eventually begin to fall and the racetrack became a washout, despite a short wait to see if the rain would pass over.
The Barrie Speedway is a 1/3 mile tri-oval racing track located in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada, north of Barrie. It is a member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series for the Ontario Provincial and continental championships, and hosts a NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race. Barrie has three home divisions: Late Models, Thunder Cars and Pure Stocks. Other touring series are hosted throughout the season, including the Ontario Legends Series, TQ midgets, and OSCAAR.
I had the pleasure of accompanying Steve Locke of Locke Photography last Saturday evening to track as a photographer to ‘learn the ropes’….. The acrid smell of hot rubber, hot oil, and cars screaming by with engines roaring is an experience not to be missed, and what an initiation for my first night of shooting; lots of crashes, spin outs and even one catching fire….definitely one needs to be on their toes and very much aware of their surroundings when you’re in the middle of the track. Some teasers from the night…..click on any image to view larger…and maybe see you at the track next Saturday night??
Fitness is something we should all be concerned with, it directly affects our health and well being. So when Alison suggested she and her husband come in for a shoot, I was excited to have them here. Alison and Ken took part on the IDFA Natural Novice classic last weekend, with Alison placing fourth in Fitness Model, 3rd in Figure and winning the Inside Fitness Transformation Challenge. Ken placed eight in mens novice bodybuilding.
The International Drug Free Athletics (IDFA), founded in 2005, is committed to promoting drug free (natural) bodybuilding world wide through education, awareness, camaraderie, and community involvement. The integrity of drug free athletics and sport is maintained through awareness programs and the promotion and sanctioning of drug free bodybuilding, fitness and figure competitions and shows. The IDFA will have in place strict drug testing guidelines and protocols to ensure a fair playing ground at all IDFA sanctioned events.
Alison and Ken will be featured on Inside Fitness magazine soon, so let’s keep an eye out for that. I really enjoyed having both of them here in the studio for their shoot, it was an absolute blast!! Here’s some from the shoot…..
I’m proud to announce that O Driscoll Imaging is now a sponsor for Barrie Slopitch 2010.
NSA Barrie has been around for a few years now and has been growing profusely in recent years, expanding from 11 teams to around 24 for the 2010 season. slo pitch is softball in which there are ten players to a team and legal pitches must travel in an arc from three to ten feet high. Some key differences are that softballs are larger than baseballs and the pitches are thrown underhand rather than overhand. Softball is played on a smaller diamond than in baseball; a softball field’s average distances from home plate to the center, left and right field fences are 220, 200 and 200 feet respectively (the corresponding baseball field average distances are 410, 325 and 325 feet.). Despite the game’s name, the standard softball is not particularly soft except in comparison to a standard hardball.
Our photography team will be attending the NSA tournament in Wasaga Beach on May 29th and 30th. If you’re interested, we’re offering a discounted package of a DVD, including action shots and team photo. Cost per DVD is $60, payable on the day. If you would like to book a spot or wish to pay ahead of time, email chris@odriscollimaging.com
